I loved this line: “You can become very good at building a life you can defend without ever getting equally good at describing the life you want.”

I felt this so much when I walked away from my corporate job. It was hard to let go of the high salary, title, and the identity I had wrapped up in work, even though I’m much happier now than I ever was on that path.

I think it’s so easy to use all of those traditional markers of success to justify why you should keep going, because they’re easy to explain to other people. Knowing what you want and going after it is so much harder (but more rewarding).

Katie omg we have to talk !!! I have a post coming out tomorrow that is so similar, an exploration of the kind of freedom I'm looking for, and everything you say here is so spot on.

"It was the system I had been using to decide what was worth doing." YES this is similar to where I landed - the problem is not necessarily having the right job, or building the right kind of business, though those things help - the problem is how I make decisions and wanting freedom from feeling like I have to do what other people think are the safest path to success.

Hang in there ❤️
